Indeed! I would add that all the words around death itself matter too. I was never fond of saying "passed away" or "left us" when explaining that someone has died.
It's a very difficult and emotive topic, especially when discussing it with representatives of a company that you've had zero interaction with previously. Some of then have very well trained and empathic staff, but unfortunately (at least based on my experience) they seem to be in the minority. I get that companies need processes to follow, but they need to be aware of how the language they use during those process can impact others.
